Brian’s ongoing ‘Postcard Series’ is the direct comparison of the postcards he buys at the various tourist centers during his travels and the actual scene from as close to the same perspective as possible.
These postcards, usually of fairly benign scenes, are sent all over the world by tourists to give friends and family in some far away location a small window into the reality of the area being visited.
“I am always curious to see what changes have occurred since the postcard was published, or in this digital age of easy over-manipulation what changes have been made to enhance the original scene. Reality is ever shifting, and by comparing our windows to the reality we gain a few insights into what is considered improvements to what is really there.
To me there is no better image than the social landscape left exactly as it is, right down to the cigarette butt on the ground.” - Brian Martin
