According to both the Mayan and Hopi calendars something significant is going to happen to the earth during the winter equinox on December 21, 2012 … or 12.21.12 as it has come to be called … anything from the enlightening dawning of the Age of Aquarius to the complete and utter destruction of the entire earth and all of humanity … numerous theories, speculations and assumptions are floating around out there for anyone who wants to listen.
Somewhere in November of 2011 an idea was born at SNSS, and it was decided that starting on December 21, 2011, the twelve of us would start taking a 'picture-a-day' through to 12.21.12, and hence the project ‘Twelve on 12.21.12’ was officially launched. (See also our SNSS Wine List elsewhere on this site, which helps to lubricate such ideas and launchings :)
The basic premise was to document what the last year on earth would be like for each of us (assuming the worst case of course :), the end of the world from twelve different perspectives. The fundamental concept was if we were actually convinced that the earth was indeed about to end in exactly one year, would that influence how we each of us approached our final time here on earth throughout those ever diminishing 365 days?
The best case scenario would be enough images to mount an interesting gallery showing afterwards.
Each member of SNSS has approached the project differently; and as per usual there were no rules for this SNSS project either. As we now near 12.21.12 the world does indeed seem an angrier place, and it is certainly raining a lot here in Langley.
