Fiona has been an avid photographer for more than 10 years and has won numerous awards for her work. She has had formal training in photography with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of the Fraser Valley.
Fiona’s photographic aesthetic revolves around time, memory, and loss. These constructs are the undercurrents of all of her images and tie many of her projects together. Her work seeks to address social and environmental issues on a local level. She uses photography to accomplish this and utilizes alternative as well as traditional approaches. Through her work Fiona attempts to affect change and cause people to pause and examine their beliefs and assumptions.
She uses film exclusively for all of her work. Black and white photos are printed by hand in the darkroom and are processed to archival museum standards using non-acid fixers and selenium toner for maximum print life. Colour photos are processed at a professional colour lab and are archival. Photos are editioned in closed editions of 25 while each Polaroid Transfer is unique and so each image is an edition of one.
The equipment used varies by the objective and nature of the assignment; Nikon F6, Pentax 645, and a Toyo 45cf for 4x5 large format are all used. This gives a large spectrum of choices for shooting different types of subjects.
